Advising C/E on matters pertaining to seaworthiness of vessel at all times and ensuring that the ship is ready in all technical respects for any operational requirement. 11. Ensuring, prior vessel's departure, that all work affecting the ability of the ship to safely go to standby conditions is completed and that all appropriate equipment and machinery is tested prior to the expected standby time. 12. All maintenance work associated with the engine department and for the proper supervision of all personnel engaged in such work. 13. Making frequent inspections of the machinery spaces to ensure the proper operation of equipment and to see that personnel are attentive to their duties. 14. Ensuring that all tools, material and equipment are secured for sea passage. 15. Ensuring that the C/E's instructions are carried out by efficient organization and directing the engine room staff accordingly. 16. Coordinating the proper utilization of engine department personnel, giving priority to necessary works; supervising repair teams in their works. 17. Assigning engine room petty Officers and ratings to their respective duties and watches. 18. Ensuring that the various engine room records are maintained up to date. 19. Keeping records of inspections and measurements/tests. 20. Ensuring the engine room cleanliness. 21. Making proper and efficient use of stores, tools and spare parts and keeping inventories. 22. Setting valves properly during bunkering, under the supervision of the C/E. Safety: 1. Implementing SMS procedures in carrying out his duties and observing safe working practices 2. Ensuring the highest standards of Safety, Health and Environmental protection in accordance to SMS Manual. 3. Demonstrating his commitment to safety and environmental excellence, by his behavior. Leading the example to the ship's crew e.g. by wearing the correct PPE and complying with safety practices and procedures. 4. Ensuring that working conditions on board are safe. 5. Ensuring that safe practices are always observed and that repair/ maintenance work are followed in accordance with the SMSM requirements. 6. Assuming the responsibility for the maintenance of fixed safety equipment, including the fixed fire extinguishing system. 7. Tasks/Responsibilities - Maintain work activities in a safe and environmental friendly way during his watch. - Training and education of other crew members. - Maintain ships administration (e.g. daily report). - Maintain the safety and environmental regulations on board as well the maintenance of the safety equipment. - Implementation and execution of the company management system and company policy as well as the Standing Guidelines. - Comply with national and international maritime law and regulations. - Optimizing of the production and the continuity of the vessel. - Execute regular maintenance and repair activities. You are authorized to make decisions and perform accordingly in order to execute the above tasks and responsibilities, always acting in accordance with the vessel related agreements, the company management system, company policy, Standing Guidelines and (inter)national maritime law and regulations. You will report to: Hierarchical: Manager Fleet. Operational: Chief Dredge Master / First Dredge Master on duty.
